Different Approaches to the Hip
TWO-INCISION
APPROACH
Two-incision hip replacement is a
revolutionary new way of performing this procedure. Instead of
placing both the pelvic and leg components through one incision, each
component is placed through a separate small incision. This approach is
based on going between muscle groups instead of through them.
This approach is dramatically less painful and
designed to get patients back to normal activities quickly. Many of Dr.
Allison’s patients have returned to work within two weeks.
This is a difficult procedure. It takes more time,
may have a higher blood loss, and can have a higher complication rate.
It is reserved for patients who need to return to activity in a more
timely fashion.
