Quad Sparing Knee Replacement, Two Incision Hip Replacement, Mini Incision Hip and Knee Replacement, No Stitch Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair, All Arthroscopic ACL Repair
At the Arkansas Orthopaedic Institute located in Russellville, Arkansas Dr. Russell Allison has developed the Center for Minimally Invasive Orthopaedic Surgery. This is the first institution devoted to the development and progression of minimally invasive surgery in the state of Arkansas.
Dr Allison, in collaboration with other Orthopaedic Surgeons from around the nation, have spent years of time and effort in the development of these new and progressive ways of performing surgery through smaller and less invasive incisions.
Dr. Allison has focused his efforts for these minimally invasive surgeries into two primary fields: total joint replacement and sports medicine. With theses new approaches patients spend dramatically less time in the hospital and in physical therapy. Patients find themselves back to work and daily activities in a shorter period of time and with less pain. Every operation required some destruction of tissue in order to repair or replace the injured joint. It is only reasonable to believe that if less damage to the surrounding tissue occurs the operation should have a quicker and better recovery. It is this thought and belief that continues to drive Dr. Allison and others to the progression of this type of surgery.
Total knee replacement, or total knee arthroplasty, is now being performed almost exclusively through the quad sparing approach. Total hip replacement, or total hip arthroplasty, is being performed through the two-incision and mini one incision technique. Rotator cuff repair is now done with no stitch all arthroscopic repair and mini open repair. And anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction is being performed with all arthroscopic techniques.
The next few pages will explain these techniques in more detail and give some reasons why Dr. Allison might choose one operation over another. |
